Matthew Katz, Chairman of the Board
Matthew, Verifi’s founder, started the company after developing the first customized solution that systematically identifies multiple types of payment risk. In his current role as Chief Executive Officer, Matthew continues to drive Verifi’s vision as the company further diversifies its product offerings, extending into many verticals and markets within the payment industry. Matthew has the unique distinction of starting a successful business while still in college introducing a new interactive online gambling methodology. Matthew has a well established career as a successful entrepreneur having founded and partnered in several other businesses and consulting firms prior to Verifi. Matthew is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in Economics.
John Shaughnessy, Board Member
John has over 35 years of experience in the payment industry, with a focus on compliance and card data protection. John has served as a consultant to Verifi since 2006. Prior to joining Verifi, John was an executive at Visa USA, most recently serving as the Senior Vice President of Fraud Control. While at Visa, John managed the following risk management and anti-fraud business units: Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP), Payment Card Industry (PCI), Fraud Control, Risk Intelligence Operations (RIO) and Fraud Analysis. Additionally, in 2001 John represented the United States as a delegate to the G8 Meeting on Cyber-Crime in Tokyo. John is also a former trustee on the Board of the Coalition for the Prevention of Economic Crime (a subsidiary of the National White Collar Crime Center) and is a former vice-chairman and board member of the Internet Security Alliance, whose members are dedicated to improving the security of information systems on a cross-industry basis. Additional experience includes various positions at Citizens Fidelity Bank (now PNC) and Barnett Banks (now Bank of America).
David Truetzel, Board Member
David has over twenty years of experience in the financial services and technology industries in both a consultative and operating capacity. David has served as a consultant to Verifi since 2007 and acted as our Chief Financial Officer from July 2008 to October 2008. Prior to joining Verifi, David served as the Chief Financial Officer of First USA Paymentech (Chase Paymentech), managing the company through its initial public offering and helping orchestrate approximately twenty acquisitions over a three year period. David also served as a General Partner of Augury Capital Partners, a private equity fund he co-founded in 2006, and as a General Partner at Hela Capital Partners from 2001 to 2005. David received a B.S. in Accounting from Saint Louis University, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and is a certified public accountant. David sits on the Board of Directors of Enterprise Bank, T3 and Clearent, LLC.
James Koman, Board Member
James is the Founder and past Managing Principal of MSK Investments, LLC, a venture capital and private equity fund investing in early and later-stage companies. Mr. Koman is also the founder and a Managing Principal of ElmTree Funds, LLC with 33 years of experience in the real estate industry. As Managing Principal of ElmTree Funds, Mr. Koman oversees all aspects of its business activities, including acquisition, management and disposition of the company’s assets. As a founder, Mr. Koman leads the organization to ensure the quality of each investment fulfills the maximum potential returns for investors and aligns with ElmTree’s strategy. Through affiliated operations, Mr. Koman has established a series of joint venture and business relationships encompassing over $4 billion of net lease and other real estate assets.
He also sits on the St. Louis Boards of Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital and The Logos School. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR), National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), and has participated on the panels for ULI, the St. Louis RCGA, and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He holds an AB degree in Economics from the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
