Limitless Chargeback Resolution Decisioning Capabilities

NA

With a rising volume of online transactions and corresponding chargebacks, merchants are increasingly challenged with chargeback problems as unique as each business. Finding the right dispute mitigation strategy is intensely personal to each merchant and it can be difficult to strike precisely the right balance for a cost-effective strategy. Starting in March 2025, Verifi will be expanding its bespoke capabilities to help merchants of all sizes and verticals address their individual needs surrounding payment disputes.

It takes significant time and resources to fight chargebacks, often creating a situation where chargebacks cost more than the value of the initial transactions to fight. Verifi’s decisioning solutions capitalize on the window of time between when a cardholder files a dispute, and the issuer initiates a chargeback. Using Verifi’s decisioning solutions, Cardholder Dispute Resolution Network (CDRN) and Rapid Dispute Resolution (RDR), merchants have the capability to intercept and resolve the disputes by giving the cardholder a credit, averting chargebacks from being filed across all card networks.

The biggest challenge with decisioning tools can be determining a methodology for choosing when it makes sense to resolve the dispute versus fight the chargeback. Our Verifi-Hosted RDR decision engine allows merchants to use pre-configured rules to choose up to ten attributes that define which cases should be automatically resolved before they go to chargeback. The new option of utilizing RDR’s Merchant-Hosted Decision Engine gives merchants the freedom to incorporate their own internally developed decision engine to create their own limitless rule sets.

Available through our RDR Decision API, merchants now have the ability to build a more sophisticated decision logic for resolution with a merchant-hosted decision engine. In addition, Resellers can self-serve modifications to decisioning rules on behalf of their clients without the need to engage with Verifi Client Support.

Whether you choose to use the Verifi-hosted rules, or instead integrate to the API and use your own merchant-hosted decision engine, Visa will continue to handle the refunds for any cases you resolve.

Every business has its own unique preferences for when it makes sense to resolve a dispute before it becomes a chargeback, versus allow it to continue through the dispute lifecycle. Both the Verifi Hosted and Merchant Hosted Decision Engines give merchants the ability to find the custom balance that works best for their business to optimize profitability and reduce post-purchase revenue drain.
